SOUTH FLORIDA’S CELEBRITY CHEFS RAISE MORE THAN
$37,000 TO HELP THE HOMELESS
Co-Chair Joanne Snead, BPHI Board Chair Dan Taylor and Co-Chair Melinda LeeFORT LAUDERDALE, FL – Thanks to the generosity of South Florida’s most celebrated chefs Broward Partnership for the Homeless, Inc. (BPHI) raised over $37,000 to help the homeless. The 3rd Annual Chefs Helping the Homeless benefit treated guests to a food-lover’s adventure prepared by South Florida’s premier chefs. The successful event was co-chaired by Joanne Snead and Melinda Lee.
“Food for me is an enjoyable part of life and a passion of mine. It saddens me to see people go hungry. If I could feed the world I would. It’s very rewarding to be able to participate in events like this that helps the less fortunate in our community.” said Chef Angelo Elia of Case D’Andgelo.
Chefs 2009 Great Florida Banks's Vice President Market Lead Raymond Baker, Casa D'Angelo's Chef Angelo Elia, and Tamika SpryThe exciting evening began with a private VIP cocktail reception at the elegant Lazzara Yachts’ Showcase on the Intracoastal Waterway. At the conclusion of the reception, the table hosts eagerly lined up to select a number from a silver champagne bucket that corresponded to their waiting limousines. And then the real fun began! Each host rounded up their party, found their waiting limo and was whisked away to their mystery restaurant. In the limos the excitement heightened as the guest tried to guess to which restaurant they were going.
“For the homeless the simple act of finding a meal can be insurmountable. BPHI’s solution-focused programs to help the homeless rebuild their lives begins with meeting the basic human need of nutritional meals. How appropriate that this benefit featured South Florida’s top chefs opening their restaurants, as well as their hearts, to join us in this mission,“ said Co-chair and BPHI Board member Joanne Snead.
 L. to R. Mindy Borkson, Cindy Cossin, Lee Gottlieb, Elliot Borkson, Brian Gordon, Mimi Greenbarg and Steve & Lori SadakaTable Hosts for the evening were: Great Florida Bank, Publix Super Markets, Elliot Borkson, Gary Brooks & Frances Esposito, Melinda Lee, Mark & Joanne Snead, Dan Taylor & Dr. Patrick Taylor, Sue Ellen Boatright, and Katie & Roger Foster.
“Trulucks Executive Chef Nelson presented every course to us with a full explanation of the tastes with which he was working. He was so into the evening that he added an extra course. Truluck's Sommelier introduced each paired wine with an explanation of the region, its taste and why it went with the course. After the last course, Chef Nelson passionately explained that he was so supportive of BPHI’s benefit because he felt the community had a responsibility to care for the homeless. It is heartening that a chef who works in such a rarified atmosphere of haute cuisine and with a clientele that can pay for it, also has such a deep concern and commitment to the homeless that BPHI serves.” said BPHI Board Chair and Table Host Dan Taylor.
The generous sponsors for the evening were: Leo Goodwin Foundation, Premier Beverages Company, Thierry’s Catering, Lazzara International Yacht Sales, Cheney Brothers, Inc, Astro Parking. The Black Coach Company, Soiree Event Rentals, Finn Real Estate Enterprises and Little’s Portraits.
East restaurant came through on their promise of a one-of-a-kind dining experience and the exquisite meals were paired with wines donated by Premier Beverages. Participating Chefs were:
